PHS Head Coach: Information coming soon
Current Team Rep: Information coming soon
contact: phspatriotswim@gmail.com
Who is eligible to compete for the team? Currently enrolled 9th-12th graders at Page High School or home-schooled students of same grades zoned for PHS.
What does the registration fee pay for? Swimming is considered a "club" not a sport. The team is NOT part of the PAC (Page Athletic Club). We get no monetary support from PAC or PHS. Our coach is NOT a teacher given a stipend to coach this team. The registration fee you pay funds all of our needs and activities as a club from paying our coach's salary, meet fees, our membership to organizations we have to participate in, insurance, etc.
Are there evaluations/tryouts? There will be evaluation session for new swimmers before the season officially starts. Swimmers should be able to swim a minimum of 50 yards continuously (in a 25 yard pool) in at least one of the four strokes- freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke or backstroke. Prior competitive swim experience is recommended.
What if my child cannot swim all four strokes? It is okay. However, your swimmer should:
be legal & proficient in at least one of the four strokes
be able to complete a legal turn
be comfortable diving off of the starting block
We will develop each of the four competitive strokes at practice as well as gain endurance and speed as the season progresses!
What equipment is needed for practices? Mesh bag to hold your gear, nose clip for underwater training, goggles (2 or more pairs), fins, buoy, paddles & water bottle ). The ISC will provide the kickboards. Swimmers will need to bring their equipment to every practice. Please send us an email if you would like recommendations of what to get for your swimmer.
What do I need for swim meets? Swimmers will be required to wear their PHS apparel- team t-shirt, cap & suit - and bring at least two pair of goggles (in case the first pair breaks). Rules state that during HS meets, swimmers will be disqualified if they compete wearing any year round club, or other team caps/suits. We are representing and competing for Page High School, please wear the appropriate gear. You will be asked to change if you come with the incorrect items on.
How will the Coach communicate practice and meet updates? To be announced soon
Who do we compete against? We are currently placed in the 7 Division in MTHSSA (Middle TN High School Swimming Association). We will compete against BGA, Centennial, Henry County, Independence, Nolensville, and Summit High Schools. We ultimately compete against all public and private schools in Tennessee at our Regional and State Championships.
What are the swim meet events? Swimmers are allowed two individual events and up to two relays for each meet. The events are 50 Free, 100 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 200 Individual Medley and 500 Free. The relays are 200 Free, 400 Free, and 200 Medley. The meets are held in 25 yard pools. Relays are not guaranteed and will be determined by the Coach as this is dependent on the number of swimmers present. Coach will also select which individual events our swimmers will compete in at each meet.
Are parents expected to volunteer? YES! The team cannot function without the support of our parents. We need parents to volunteer during meets to be timers. No previous timing experience is necessary. We also have several "social" team events during the season that parents can volunteer to help out with also.
